The Runaway DinosaurIn The Flash episode leading up to “The Runaway Dinosaur,” Barry appeared to have been vaporized while trying to regain his Speed Force, but it was revealed that he is very much alive.
It turns out that the blur was him, and the two Barrys join. When Cisco and Iris try again to reach Barry, they succeed. Awww. Barry had to go through an emotional journey to get his speed back from the speed force that gave him his powers in the first place.
When Barry visits Iris, their hands spark in the same way they did when she found out he was the Flash in season 1, which means there’s still some Speed Force left in Iris’ body. So, a newly awakened Iris touches the fusion sphere as Barry starts running around the speed lab — and boom, Barry’s speed returns.
Mother. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that love — and not weird, comic booky science — was the key to Barry regaining his speed and saving the day in tonight’s climactic episode, “Mother.” Not only was it unsurprising, but it was perfectly fitting.
In the second half of season 6, Barry learned some unsettling news: the energy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) gave to Barry when he was the Spectre poisoned the Speed Force. The Speed Force itself is gone, and having an artificial one take its place may be the only way for Barry to remain a speedster in the Arrowverse.
New episodes of The Flash season 8 will resume airing on Wednesday, March 9 at 8 p.m. ET. That’s a night change, so mark your calendars. Netflix US subscribers will have to wait until summer 2022 for the new season to land on the platform.
