Most people know about Superman’s aversion to Kryptonite. Surprisingly, that isn’t even his greatest weakness! In fact, magic circumnavigates all of his biological abilities. No matter what color of sun he’s under, no matter what the situation is, magic is extremely effective against Superman.
When Superman’s home planet exploded, it created a leftover radioactive element: Kryptonite. The element comes in many forms, but the most iconic is as a glowing, green rock. Green Kryptonite makes Superman weak and can even kill him. But, Kryptonite comes in many variations—red, gold, blue, white, etc.
Why does Kryptonite makes Superman weak is quite simple. The biological structure of Kal-El was unable to develop under the same sun that Krypton was exposed to. A red sun. He grew up being soaked under the light of a yellow one.
It’s radiation that makes Superman weak. Though kryptonite is a fictional mineral, the way it interferes makes sense. Radioactive materials emit radiation in the form of particles and energy. If gamma rays were emitted by kryptonite, they would ionize Superman’s cells.
Contrary to popular belief, Kryptonite is only that weakens Superman on exposure. Prolonged exposure may even kill him, When we see Superman succeed in spite of Kryptonite, it is a testament to his fortitude, as when he is taking in its energy, he is literally absorbing death. However, there’s good news, Superman fan.
Not only that, but among all his cool powers, there are none that protect him against magic. This means that magic affects him the way it affects anyone else, he’s just as vulnerable to it as normal humans are. In fact, magic seems to have very unpredictable effects on Superman.
It’s radiation that makes Superman weak. The prevailing theory in geekdom is that kryptonite can kill Superman because it disrupts his solar panel-like energy absorption. Without energy from the Sun, he weakens and eventually dies. If gamma rays were emitted by kryptonite, they would ionize Superman’s cells.
His name is Superman Prime One Million, He is from the 853rd century and he has been sundipping for 15,000 years! He even has a green lantern ring. Apparently if Superman sits in the sun long enough he becomes insanely powerful and loses all weaknesses, He is immune to kryptonite, magic and even red sun radiation too.
Superman has beaten Shazam, Black Adam, Manchester Black and the Elite, that I know of. He’s probably beaten many other magical characters as well.
As the second master mind-controller on the list, John Constantine is another DC villain who defeats Superman by invading his thoughts. Although he has magical powers, Constantine only uses them when necessary.
In the out-of-canon crossover event DC Universe Vs. Masters Of The Universe, the Justice League comes to blows with He-Man and his allies. However, the fight comes to a shocking finish when He-Man stabs Superman right through the chest with his magic-based power sword, killing him.
