Gaia first sided alongside Kratos in his quest for revenge, only to reveal he was being used as a pawn when finally reaching Zeus. This turn of events did not bode well and proved her downfall. Gaia’s deceptive nature and future betrayal are alluded to in God of War II in two instances.
He learned from a dying Athena that Zeus is, in fact, his father, a fact Zeus kept secret because he wished to avoid a repetition of what he did to his own father, Cronos. Kratos rejected any notion of a relationship and vowed to kill Zeus and destroy Olympus.
After being killed by Zeus, Kratos was dragged down to Hades by the arms of the Underworld. The Titan Gaia, who had been watching him his entire life, decided to intervene. She saved Kratos, sealed his wound, and gave him the strength to escape death once again.
Gaea (also spelled as Gaia) is the primordial Greek goddess personifying the Earth, and the main antagonist of The Heroes of Olympus series.
Gaia meets Kratos during the Great War. After Kratos accidentally killed Athena, the latter revealed to Kratos that Zeus was his father, thereby making Gaia his great-grandmother.

Fearing Zeus’ wrath for having kept Pandora’s existence hidden from him, Hephaestus soon turned to Kratos. A broken man, Hephaestus pleaded Kratos to save Pandora from the God-King’s relentless anger. Unable to do so himself after Zeus’ initial punishment, the Gods’ Smith could not stand to lose his own child.
