The challenge dares you to eat a chip covered in Carolina Reaper and Ghost Pepper seasonings. As a result, many people experience severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty breathing that can last more than 24 hours and lead to more severe health complications.
The chip is extremely hot, having a 1.5 million unit reading on the Scoville scale, which measures the pungency of a pepper. It is about a hundred times hotter than the hottest jalapenos. The pepper is bred in North Carolina, US, by Ed Currie.
