It was added into the movie because they needed to give foreshadowing to the audience that Barty Crouch Jr was impersonating Mad Eye. In the book, they use other methods of foreshadowing, (eg winky, more development with Barty Crouch Sr, etc).
According to books, Barty Crouch senior was never able to recognise or know that person posing himself as Alastor Moody was his son. Barty Crouch senior was kept under the imperious curse by Voldemort. But soon he began to fight the imperious curse and one day when wormtail was not alert, he escaped to Hogwarts.
In fact, Barty gave the book to Neville in order to help Harry, who was Neville’s room-mate, to help him in the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament. He had to give Neville that book, and that’s why he was nice to him.
In his portrayal, Tennant gave Barty the nervous habit of licking his lips, which Brendan Gleeson (Moody’s actor) decided to go with. The movement was completely improvised on Tennant’s part, but became an indicator for Barty Crouch Sr. as to Moody’s true identity.
Turning Draco into a bouncing ferret was probably as much fun for him as it was for Harry, Ron, and Hermione to watch. The book gave us the answer already. Crouch Jr made sure to intimidate and scare anyone who he thought might interfere with Harry’s success in the tournament.
In this game, it becomes clear that Draco Malfoy’s Boggart is Lord Voldemort. Draco’s fear of Voldemort likely comes from different reasons than others have. Most fear Voldemort taking over the world. Draco fears Voldemort intimidating and manipulating the Malfoy family.
According to her, and going back to 1997, Hermione would have seen Voldemort defeated and dead (just like Harry did), herself and her friends alive and well, and herself in a romantic embrace with Ron.
Draco would most likely see himself being acknowledged as inconceivably the best. He would see his father looking at him with pride and Harry in the position of looking at him with envy. He’d see himself as successful. Because the two things he wanted were to stand at the top and for his father to be proud of him.
